Hello all ๐
This is Mariam Mushtaq from HR Brain Pickings bringing you this weekโs edition on all things employee engagement. ๐
A very Happy New Year to all of you! ๐พ Here's hoping your resolutions last longer than your New Year's Eve leftovers! ๐
Letโs get back to business! ๐ค
Quick Trivia ๐ง
What are the 5 Cs of employee engagement? |
In this issue we are going to discuss how to set up an employee engagement roadmap. Is it really necessary? Yes. For long-time success of your engagement strategy, it is absolutely essential. ๐ฏ
Roadmap to Results
Think of an employee engagement roadmap as your GPS to success but with less annoying rerouting! ๐บ๏ธ It's a well-thought-out mix of actions, milestones and initiatives aimed at ramping up engagement levels.
Just like any robust business strategy, this roadmap can be crafted to achieve specific, desired outcomes for the business. ๐ฏ
It's also crucial to keep these plans fresh and aligned with your business strategy, giving them a regular tune-up rather than making sporadic changes or considering them only as an afterthought. ๐ผ
So, where to start? How to begin? ๐ค
The Engagement Blueprint
Planning Phase
๐Understand and Listen To Your Employees: Dive deep into understanding your employees' preferences, needs, and aspirations. Use tools like pulse surveys, focus groups, and social media monitoring, and engage in direct conversations to get a pulse on what drives engagement and what needs improvement.
๐ค Engage Leaders: It's vital to get leaders involved in employee engagement. HR should demonstrate how engagement links to business performance and highlight the influence of leaders' words and actions.
๐ Aligning with Organizational Values: Ensure your engagement plan is in sync with your organization's values, mission, and culture. Employees are more engaged when they feel their work aligns with the broader goals of the company.
๐ฏ Set Clear Goals: There are no direct ways to improve engagement, it takes different experiments, trials and improvements to get there. Hence keep in mind to establish realistic and achievable goals that ultimately lead to improved engagement.
๐ ๏ธ Choosing the Right Employee Engagement Tool: An engagement tool can give you a competitive edge with your initiatives. Ensure you select your ideal platform based on your unique business needs.
Implementation Phase
๐ฌ Integrate Engagement in Communication: Regularly discuss engagement initiatives in team meetings, town halls, emails and announcements. Try out the 5 Ws and an H approach for effective communication.
๐ Offer Training: Leaders and managers often are not aware of engagement initiatives themselves. Hence itโs important to get them to not only participate but also train them as to what their role is in employee engagement.
๐ Launch Engagement Programs: Whether itโs your new rewards and recognition program or DEI initiatives, launching your engagement programs will get the engagement wheel turning.

Continuous Improvement Phase
๐ Continuously Measuring and Adapting: Regular assessment of engagement levels is important to identify areas for improvement and gauge the success of your initiatives. Use surveys, feedback, and analytics tools to make data-driven adjustments.
๐Conduct Surveys: Use these as a baseline to measure engagement and track the effectiveness of your efforts.
๐ Monitor eNPS: This one-question survey measures how likely employees are to recommend your company as a workplace, offering a simple engagement gauge.
๐ข Share Results and Insights: Always share survey results with the entire company. Celebrate successes and outline current and future plans. Link engagement data with productivity, retention, and business performance to highlight its impact on the bottom line.
Every organization is different, with its unique set of needs and challenges. As a People leader, it's your task to tailor an engagement plan that mirrors your company's values, mission, and objectives.
